Barcelona’s left-back Jordi Alba, 33, will not be involved in the World Cup finals later this year if the player remains on the bench for Azulgrana.

Alba started in the opening game of the season with a 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano, losing his place to teenage left-back Alejandro Valde before Xavi Hernandez sent in. The 33-year-old started again against Victoria Pilsen in the Champions League, but in seven games this season Alba has played just four ufabet games, including 216 minutes.
Barcelona have also added another signing of ex-Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso, which has led the Spanish media to view Alba as Barca’s third choice at left-back after Bal. Dee and Alonso, that could mean the 33-year-old left-back will be out of the squad for the World Cup final later this year.
Current coach Luis Enrique Martinez has options at left-back such as Valencia’s Jose Luis Gaia, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and even A. Lonso, if Alba remains as a substitute for Azul Grana, it will be difficult for him to participate in major tournaments in Qatar.
However, the 33-year-old opted to stay and fight for his place at Spotify Camp Nou. His decision may now end up costing him a place on the flight to Qatar come November.
